How to unlock Roaring Moon

Roaring Moon is not sold directly, so the only route is the Paldea banner, where it occupies a 5★ slot. The 5★ band takes 1.5% of all pulls and holds 103 partners, so one specific Roaring Moon works out to about 0.0146% per draw. The 70-pull pity counter guarantees a 5★, but it does not target Roaring Moon specifically, so a guarantee can still resolve to another 5★. A duplicate Roaring Moon refunds 300 coins at the 5★ rate.

Roaring Moon stats and rank

Roaring Moon reads 117 HP, 128 speed, ×1.46 attack, ×1.46 physical, ×1 special, 71 defense and 101 special defense, for a 590 base-stat total. On the three-stat percentile this is 94.5 out of 100, which puts Roaring Moon at rank 3 of 966 and in tier S. The relative picture matters more than the total: its strongest slot is physical multiplier (98th percentile) and its weakest is special multiplier (33rd percentile), so it is a specialist rather than an all-rounder.

Best moves in Roaring Moon's pool

At move level 5 the pool is led by Dragon Claw at 48.3 damage per 0.39s (180.8 effective DPS, ×1.46 multiplier), then Body Slam at 75.6 damage per 0.71s (154.9 effective DPS, ×1.46 multiplier), then Bite at 35.7 damage per 0.34s (154.4 effective DPS, ×1.46 multiplier). 10 of its 16 damaging moves scale with the physical multiplier and 6 with the special one, alongside 5 support moves. Its physical multiplier is the higher of the two (×1.46 against ×1), so physical moves convert better. The top option beats the second by 25.9 DPS, which decides slot one and leaves slot two as a judgement call. Effective DPS is damage over cooldown times the matching multiplier; it ignores range and area, so a lower-DPS cone can still clear faster than a single-target melee.

Evolution cards for Roaring Moon

Its starting move, Dragon Rage, evolves into Draco Meteor once the move is at level 5 and you hold the Power card, which boosts attack for that run. Menu upgrades use a separate system and never stand in for Power. 16 of its 21 moves carry an evolution card, across 6 distinct cards (Vigor, Sprint, Power, Reflexes, Armor and Synthesis). The strongest of them is Dragon Claw at 180.8 effective DPS, so that is the one worth holding a card for first.

Roaring Moon compared to similar partners

The two closest stat lines in the roster are Iron Leaves (-7 HP, -6 speed, -0.04 attack, +0 total) and Gyarados (-4 HP, -16 speed, -0.07 attack, -50 total). Against Iron Leaves, Roaring Moon is 6 speed faster and Roaring Moon hits harder by ×0.04, and the rank gap is 36 places. Read those deltas as swap costs, because a gain on one line is usually paid for on another, so neither side is a strict upgrade and the move pools have to break the tie.
